Hello, Experts,

I exactly know that Qualification of new welding procedure or Requalification of existing welding procedure should confirm to the latest revision of ASME section Ⅸ according to QW-100.3. while for just updating an old WPS or preparing a new WPS without requalification,Is that WPS required to follow the latest version or just refer to the same version with the supporting PQR?

In my opinion, if just making editorial changes to the WPS original supporting PQR could apply (although changes to non-essential variables could follow latest, if desirable). For issuing a new WPS to an existing PQR, again, just my opinion, the latest edition should apply.

In all Sect. IX Editions and namely in the last one,
ASME IX Ed.2010 Add '11: QW-100.3 is self explanatory:

"Welding Procedure Specifications, Procedure
Qualification Records, and Welder/Welding Operator
Performance Qualification made in accordance with the
requirements of the 1962 Edition or any later Edition of
Section IX may be used in any construction built to the
ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code or the ASME B31
Code for Pressure Piping."

Dephy,
This is further text from QW 100.3

Welding Procedure Specifications, Procedure Qualification
Records, and Welder/Welding Operator Performance
Qualification made in accordance with the requirements
of the Editions of Section IX prior to 1962, in which all
of the requirements of the 1962 Edition or later Editions
are met, may also be used.
Welding Procedure Specifications and Welder/Welding
Operator Performance Qualification records meeting the
above requirements do not need to be amended to include
any variables required by later Editions and Addenda.
Qualification of new Welding Procedure Specifications
or Welders/Welding Operators and requalification of
existing Welding Procedure Specifications or Welders/
Welding Operators shall be in accordance with the current
Edition (see Foreword) and Addenda of Section IX.

A PQR and WPS from 1962 can be used today - no problem.
If you want to write a WPS today off a PQR from 1962 you would use the variables applicable from 1962 edition - this is only my opinion.
I have based my opinion on the last paragraph referencing qualification of new WPS's or requalification of existing WPS's - you are only writing a new document - you are not qualifying or requalifying anything.
Regards,
BB
