Dear all
As per U-1(d) of ASME section VIII Div.1 , equipment can be code stamped even if pressure exceeds 3000 psi.

As per U-1 (d) " For pressures above 3000 psi (20 MPa), deviations from and additions to these rules usually are necessary to meet the requirements of design principles and construction practices for these high pressures. Only in the event that after having applied these additional design principles and construction practices, the vessel still complies with all the requirements of this Division, may it be stamped with the applicable code symbol".

Can anyone please explain me where to look for the above said additional requirements?

This question is and evergreen.

There is no generic answer except "that depends on".

The service conditions, materials, pressure temperature, loads come into play.

Maybe a simple calculation can demonstrate safety, maybe a comlex stress analysis needs to be made, with thermal, fatigue, ratcheting, and whatever analysis. The Manufacturer of the vessel must demonstrate on paper the safety of the vessel. And the AI must be conviced to accept this (U-2(g)).

Often Division 2 is used as a first starter. But the stress values shall be from Div. 1!
