Dear All,

I have design horizontal vessel with support by 2 saddles( weight=13660 kg), but my client want to put this vessel to additional support approximately 1850mm height,1050mm length and 300mm width complete with 1 web at center and 5 rib.

could anyone provide me a manual calculation or guide me to design these support.

Your assistance will highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Faizol,

I have never come across any horizontal equipment haveing more than 2 saddle support, andwould like to caution you against the use of multiple saddle supports and the issues associated with it:-

1) Differential settlement of the foundation would result very varying reactions and overstressing of the shell.

2) Differential thermal expansion.

The subject of multiple saddle supports cannot be analysed by the traditional Zick analysis and requires special analysis. I understand that Singapore based universities NTU or NUS (not sure which one amongst others) have a paper dealing with this subject.

Hope this helps. It is stronly reccomended to have 2 saddles only even in case of very large horizontal vessels.

Faizol,

If I understand correctly, your equipment is required to be elevated by putting additional structural support below the saddle support.

If saddle support is not yet fabricated, you can increase the height of saddle supports instead of putting additional support below it.

Any way this additional support can be designed the same way as of your saddle support but top of this support shall be flat to match the saddle base plate instead of a curved wrapper plate in case of saddle support welded to the vessel.

If mounted on a concrete structure, concrete pedestal height can also be increased to elevate the equipment.

Regards

Dear Sanjeev,

Correct Sir, our client need structure steel support. The problem is saddles already fabricated, so i need your guide to design these support. i lack of knowldge in structure because i used software to calculate the saddle ( PV elite software).

If you have formula or manual calculation, could you send to me to study.

Thank you.
