Hallo!

One of our designers has designed a pressure vessel specifying SA-283 Gr. C as the MOC for pressure as well as non pressure parts. This material is not available in the local market. A material produced to local regulation is present.

The materials manufactured according to local regulation are not exact equivalent of SA-283 Gr. C. Also the local material is not listed in ASME Sec II PArt A and D, hence not listed in PVElite.

One alternative could be to use, SA 516 Gr. 70 which is better, costlier and easily available. But is there any other possibility?

Sharjeel,
If your QA system allows to make material substitution without having the designer's consent, then change it as soon as you can. You can't use other material than was meant to be used not knowing why a particular grade was chosen. And if you need a Code justification of this, how do you want to show that corrosion allowance is enough for the new material?
