Hello!

In 2.A.2.1 (b), an alternative to certification by RPE is provided. I believe it was made to make D2 more popular.

The logic of using an RPE is to have a knowledgeble engineer in between who would provide an unbiased review.

The clause states that such certification requires the signature(s) of one or more Engineers with requisite technical and legal stature, and jurisdictional authority needed for such a document.

Apart from an RPE, which Engineer possesses legal and jurisdictional authority. What I mean, if I have to cerify my User's Design Spec, where do we go?

Sounds like old wine in new bottle.

Thanks a lot.

I really appreciate your help.

Regards,
Sharjeel

You have to apply to one or more engineers with evidence of experience in p.v. design and having the qualifications required in your Country, to design p.v. Your Client/User has to accept.

Sharjeel,

The intend was to go away from the few RPEs who are working internationally. ASME wanted to issue an INTERNATIONAL standard, and that did not read nice with the requirement for an RPE, who is only acceptable from US and Canada.

Just between you and me, we have seen a couple of mistakes made by RPEs, these guys are human beings!

Nowadays you can contract a UK Chartered Engineer, or a German TÜV Sachverständiger, or somebody else who has documented experience in the field of PV design to Section VIII Div.2 and fulfills the other requireement. Customer and Jurisdictional acceptance should not be forgotten.

I think it is a great improvement.
