A 1-7 is used for large openings, which have been calculated according UG,by applying a few more modification.
I have not used A-10 but I claim that it is much more difficult to calculate for the beginning a large opening when you have entered in your calculation sheet UG calculation procedure. You have to start from the beginning.

Part UG rules are based on area-replacement method and are little conservative and 1-7 are the modification of these rules.
1-10 rules are based on pressure-area method and are much more sophisticated as compared to UG rules.
1-10 rules are preferable over 1-7, I have experienced.
One important change brought is 2010 edition is that you may use 1-10 rules to every opening regardless it is large opening or not.
