Team,

I am trying to calculate the Area of reinfocement required when a 36" dia nozzle is weld to a 24" dia vessel. The wall thickness calculated as per ASME ( tr = 0.698" without adding corrosion all.).

formula for area of reinforcement available is d(E1*t - F*tr), where t is specified vessel wall thickness.

How to perform this calculation if 't' is not specified? what should we consider as 't'?

thanks for your responses...

regards,
manoj

If the nominal shell thickness "t" is not provided then you cannot guess at what its value might be. You should conservatively assume that "t" = "tr", with the consequence that no reinforcing area is available in the shell: all reinforcing must come from nozzle neck, fillet welds, and/or reinforcing plate.

I'm trying to figure out how you are going to weld a 36" nozzle to a 24" shell? do you mean the other way around?
