To all,

Read paragraph I-751 (1) of Article 7 Mandatory Appendices, Appendix I of Section V 2004 Edition or 2007 Edition and give your thoughts on how to comply with this paragraph.

As an alternative to the material
requirement, other materials and heat treatments may be
qualified provided:
(1) The measured yoke maximum lifting force on the
material to be examined is equal to or greater than the
maximum lifting force on the qualification specimen material.
Both values shall be determined with the same or
comparable equipment and shall be documented as required
in I-751(c).

Once you made your qualification with a material and a certain lifting force with that material, this qualifies for other material where the yoke shows an higher lifting force (i.e. it is more effective). This is in accordance with the general rule that you have to demonstrate the procedure in the worst conditions.

Good question leem...... is there a device such as a load cell described in I-761 that could be utilized for this? I can't find one on the net...yet....I'll ask a Level III for advice on this....Most of the MT I see is on uncoated materials or with "known" materials....never had to deal with coated materials or "unknown" materials yet.....
