Hello!

ASME B 16.5 allows blind flanges and certain types of reducing flanges to be made from plate. What does the word "certain" mean?

How do I get the thickness for a reducing flange? It cannot be the same as that of a forged flange? Since plates have lower allowable stresses than forgings?

I would really appreciate your help in this regard.

Although, your topic is vectored towards ASME B 16.5, I wish to add that restrictions on using plate product (in lieu of forgiong) for flange construction is outlined in ASMe VIII-1 Appendix 2 para 2-2 (d) 2)
