Does ASME Code 2010 Edition make some changes to the rules deemed to the sizing (set pressure and discharge capacity) of pressure safety valves to be installed on a steam generator designed according to ASME I ?

Thank you in advance.

Carlo,

Here is the brief summary what happened in 2010 Edition regarding the safety valve sizing rules.

" PG-69.2.3 is revised by adding rules to calculate pressure relief valve relieving capacities for
pressures greater than 3200 psig (22.1 MPa). A new table (Table PG-69.2.3) is also added
providing values for supercritical correction factor Ksc as a part of this action."

Hope it helps.

Nasir,

thank you very much for your kind (and useful) answer.

About the PSVs I have another question. It is a common practice in the Company where I work, to select the pressure safety valves according a criteria that in my opinion is not required by ASME.

The criteria is the following: the PSV discharge nozzle pressure drop shall be less than 3% of set pressure, considering a nozzle length equal to 300 mm.

Is this criteria required by ASME ?

Thank you
Regards,
Carlo
