QW-302.2 Radiographic Examination. When the welder or welding operator is qualified by radiographic examination, as permitted in QW-304 for welders and QW-305 for welding operators, the minimum length of coupon(s) to be examined shall be 6 in. (150 mm) and shall include the entire weld circumference for pipe(s), except that for small diameter pipe, multiple coupons may be required, but the number need not exceed four consecutively made test coupons. The radiographic technique
and acceptance criteria shall be in accordance with QW-191.

Q1 : Refer to paragraph QW-302.2, Does Minimum Length of Coupon is 6 in. (150mm) for Welder or Welding Operator?

could any one share about your interpretation about this paragraph. me and my friend still confuse about this matter.

Warm Regards,

Robby Adiana.

Robby,

for EACH welder or welding operator, a 6" film shall be made from a weld made by that person.
Of course more coupons may be required for processes, positions, diameters, etc. per QW-350 thru 360.

What is your problem in understanding?

This mean, each welder or welding operator shall be weld a coupon minimum of length is 6"(150mm) ?
for example:
we would test performance welder or welding operator in pipe with diameter 3/4", so we have to prepare test coupons 4(four) max for each welder or welding operator.

RA

Robby,

No, I see a different calc.

NPS 3/4 has an OD of 26,7mm. Circumference of one pipe is 84 mm.
Having TWO pipes per welder means that the test coupon length of 168 mm is sufficintly above 152mm (6in).
