Hello Gilbert,

Of course you can use and kg/cm² and °C for the ASME nameplate. You can additionally add the psi and F values in paranthesis, however, it is not required. All information on this topic you will find in paragraph "U-4 Units Of Measurement" and paragraphs "UG-115 General" and "UG-116 Required Marking" under "Marking and Reports".

Please note that the units used on the Manufacturer´s Data Report have to be the same as on the nameplate. Additionally you can add there the psi and F values in paranthesis too.

Just use one unit system consequently and add one if you like in paranthesis. Following this procedure you should not run into any troubles.

I am not sure but our AI refused to accept any unit other than the unit indicated in ASME for ASME name plate. We were forced to use either FPS (US customary units) or SI units only.

Hello Sanjeev,

In paragraph U-4 the units you have to use are indicated.
Code:
U-4 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT
Either U.S. Customary, SI, or any local customary units may be used to demonstrate compliance with all requirements of this edition, e.g., materials, design, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing, certification, and overpressure protection.
[...]
All entries on a Manufacturer’s Data Report and data for Code-required nameplate marking shall be in units consistent with the fabrication drawings for the component using U.S. Customary, SI, or local customary units. It is acceptable to show alternate units parenthetically. Users of this Code are cautioned that the receiving Jurisdiction should be contacted to ensure the units are acceptable.

This says clearly that "local customary units" can be used, under the same provisions like all other unit systems, isn´t it. I´m afraid it´s not a Code related problem  .

Michael,

Thanks for the clarification but I am not getting "or local customary units" in my copy.

I am probably using an obselete edition (ed 2004). Ed 2004, section U- 4 sayas

"Either US customary units of SI units may be used............."

Please advise if this is revised in latest addenda/ edition??

Thanks and regards

Sanjeev

Sanjeev,

Indeed it´s a quotation from Edition 2004, Addenda 2006. The summary of changes says it has been "Revised in its entirety".

Michael,

Thanks again, probably my encounter with AI was prior to Add 2006 when it is revised.

Thanks and regards
