Hello

I have a question to ask.

Acc. to ASME Sec. IV HF-301.1 requirement, any ferrous plate, or pipe used in lieu of plate, under any pressure shall be 1/4in (6mm).

In point b) and c) of this same requirement there are exceptions but this exceptions don't apply to my design because MAWP will be 160 psi.

I would like to know if i have to use minimum 6mm thickness for every pressure bearing part inc. "nozzles" and "shells" due to this HF-301.1 requirement.

Parts like shells and nozzles can easily be calculated using other formulas.

I also wonder if wording "pipe in lieu of plate" describe parts which are normally made from plate (tubesheets, heads, shells) but can be manufactured from pipe instead. If i understand it right it shouldn't apply to nozzles.

Thank you for your help.

Lukasz
