Hi, I'm an intern in a pressure vessel making company. I'm required to find out how to use the attachment factor C.

As seen in UG-34

According to the dimensions of my ellipsoidal head

d-43.31in
P-159.5psi
S-15700psi
E-0.85
C-?
ts, actual thickness of shell - 0.354in
th- actual thickness of head/cover - 0.354in

For Fig UG-24(a), C=0.17 or 0.10, I'm not sure which one to use so I'm just going to show what I got. Hopefully someone can show me the light

Condition for C=0.10,
when the flange length, for circular heads is not less than L=[1.1-0.8(ts^2/th2)]*sqrt(d*th)
Calc:

L=1.175in
Flange length from design, Lf=1.524in

Lf>L

Condition fulfilled

Condition for C=0.17,
for flanged circular head butt welded to the vessel with an inside radius not less than 3 times than required head thickness

inside radius of flanged circular head, Ri=4.31in
Head thickness, th=0.354

3*th=1.062in

Ri>3th

Condition fulfilled

Now I don't know which C to use, can anyone shed some light?

Hello!
Kindly first define a link between ellipsoidal head to shell joint and the article UG-34.
