I am doing External pressure calculation of ellipsoidal head in pvelite. But I am not able to view the calculation as per clause UG-33 (a)(1)(a). I am not sure whether pvelite is doing external pressure calculation as per above mentioned clause.

Can anybody through some light on the above issue. Are other softwares doing this calculation?

Regards,
SKY

Sky,

as per ASME Code Forword you as user of the program are responsible to verify that the calculation is complying with Code requirements. If you are working under a U-stamp QC Manual, the design chapter will tell you how to document your COMPUTER PROGRAM VERIFICATION. Your Authorized Inspector should be able to guide you how to verify the calculations.

Most users are performing a hand calculation for a typecal problem and run the same with the computer. Are the results reasonably the same, you are done.

Can any pvelite users tell that, IS pvelite doing the calculation as per UG-33 (a)(1)(a).

satishky,

I am not a user of PVElite, but I found a PVElite 2009 calculation results in the internet. See pages 22 & 23 of the document below...
http://files.engineering.com/download.a ... result.pdf

Based on the results, PVElite 2009 is doing UG-33(a)(1)(a) calculations, but it is doing it incorrectly. PVElite 2009 is adding "static head pressure" to the design pressure on the convex side of head. Static head pressure is not required to be added in the particular case above. Luckily, the required thickness comes out bigger than required by UG-33(a)(1)(a). : )

I don't know if Coade corrected this mistake in their 2010 version of PVElite.
