Dear all
I request one of you to clarify the following please

1 When channel flange, tubesheet and shell flange are bolted together with a collar bolt, tightening torque on both side can be different. The difference in the applied loads on either side of collar will be exerted on tubesheet. Is it a correct interpretation?

2. Does this mean bolt design Wm1 on shell and channel side can be different?

3. Which appendix / code gives guideline for such cases of design ?

Thanking You and With regards

Hello,
1. The bolt load of the first assembly will act on the tubesheet. The second assembly will unload the TS. Therefore you have to design your TS extension to withstand assembly one.
2. Yes
3. App. 2 for the bolt load (+ additional gasket area for pass partitions and so on) and UHX for the TS extension.

Dear all

When we design the flanges (thickness), is it always mandatory to transfer bolt loads from shell side to channel side or channel side to shell side irrespective of which load is more?

When channel side load is less, can we propose to control tighten on channel side so that the load is not transmitted from shell side to channel side.

Alternatively, can we have a different diameter on either side of collar bolt (channel side less than the shell side)?

Kindly advise me where I can look for also

Thanking You and With regards
