Hello every one

i am planing to buy some pressure vessels from china and i am informed that asking ASME code instead of chinese code will increase the cost by 20-30%, i have not sent my qoutation yet, but i would like to know if anyone has the same experience.
Also i will be grateful if someone can inform me about any article on comparison of ASME Sec VIII and china GB-150.

thanks,

Karimjyaz,

Pressure vessels are not just pressure vessels.

In the first place you must make sure that the vessels purchased are actually good for the purpose, e.g. header, collector, HX, reactor, whatever.

In the next step you want to make sure that the specified Code is acceptable to the owner/user of the vessel and the local authorities. Many US states mandate ASME Code stamped vessels. Consequently a GB-150 certified vessel would be illegal to operate or even to import to that state.
The same vessel could be perfectly legal in China.

Only after specifying these aspects you should start comparing the remainig Codes.

It is just the same as purchasing a car.

Dear Dr. Koelbl

thanks for your reply.

i am quite familiar with the concept of ordering a pressure vessel and i have been envolved in it from checking the design of pressure vessels with ASME / BS codes to managing several POs with differnet suppliers.

the reason i asked this question was that one of my clients wants to decide about adding some chinese manufacturer in their approved vendor lists for the first time in an specific project, as some reasonable prices can be found in that market .they asked for my consultation, one of the main points that i was concerned about was to see if it is logical to add the chinese code to "project's codes and standards", when chinese vendor is accepted. i have heard that there is no special milage when you purchase an ASME pressure vessle in china.

my client is not in US so there is no limitation on using chinese code.

Best Regards,

If you think from the procurement according to ASME regulating pressure vessel made, Chinese have ASME U stampsl manufacturers can completely meet your requirements. This no any relation with GB150 .if you want to know about GB150. I could help provide study using electronic version GB150.
You can download from the web page to the English version of the GB150:http://www.bzfxw.com/

Karimjaz,

Ok, I have GB150-98 in English here, but at this moment i have no way to upload it in forum.
If you need, you can contact me.
Anyway, for most of standards, Chinese standard usually will be similar to US standard.
For pressure vessel, the government here attach great importance to the safety in such products. So if you only want to know difference in details and requirements, I think Chinese one will be more strictly.
Even the Chinese manufacturer can only produce according to GB, you can require certificates they had, In China, not all the manufacturer can easy to get certificates and also have several level here for certificate.
If they can be approved by the highest level by Chinese government here, I think their products can definitely meet your requirements.
Of course, it only represent my opinion.
Have a Great day!
