Dear all,
Can you suggest any calculation for finding clamp bolt load for designing manhole flange.I found appendix 24 for clamp bolt design but it seems typically for connector flange.
Thanks and regards,
Minu

You can calculate the clamps by FEA. Or you can make a proof test by applying tensile test to the complete clamp and to the screwed rod only (usually same specification of a bolt) then obtain a factor of reduction in strength as the ratio Clamp UTS/Bolt UTS. After that apply this factor to the allowable stress x Area of the bolt/ factor determinated above Make three tests and consider the average. The factor is the "shape factor" of the clamp versus the correspondent bolt.
