Hi sir
Good day!
I have some confused with paragraph QW-200.4(b) and QW-200.2(f)

The following are some examples in my understanding:
“T” designates the thickness of base metal, the unit is “mm”
“t” designates the thickness of weld metal, the unit is “mm”
For All the PQRs , Impact testing is not required.

I have qualified 4 PQRs,
PQR1: SMAW+SAW, T=25, SMAW t=5, SAW t=20.
PQR2: GTAW +SMAW, T=15, GTAW t=3, SMAW t=12.
PQR3: PAW +GMAW, T=15, PAW t=3, GMAW t=12.
PQR4: PAW +GMAW, T=8, PAW t=3, GMAW t=5

With the support of above 4 PQRs, I can conclude the following 12 WPSs
WPS1: supported by PQR1, SAW, T=5-50, SAW t<50
WPS2: supported by PQR1, SMAW, T=5-50, SMAW t<10,actual T=5-10.
WPS3: supported by PQR1, SMAW+SAW, T=5-50, SMAW t<10 SAW t<50
WPS4: supported by PQR2, SMAW, T=5-30, SMAW t<24,actual T=5-24.
WPS5: supported by PQR2, GTAW, T=5-30, GTAW t<6,actual T=5-6.
WPS6: supported by PQR2, GTAW+SMAW, T=5-30, GTAW t<6 SMAW t<24
WPS7: supported by PQR1+ PQR2, GTAW+SAW, T=5-50, GTAW t<6 SAW t<50
WPS8: supported by PQR1+ PQR2, SMAW, T=1.5-24, SMAW t<24
WPS9: supported by PQR2+ PQR3, PAW+SMAW, T=5-24, PAW t<6,SMAW t<24
WPS10: supported by PQR4+ PQR1, PAW+SAW, T=1.5-6, PAW t<6,SAW t<50,actual T=1.5-6
WPS11: supported by PQR4+ PQR2, PAW+SMAW, T=1.5-6, PAW t<6,SMAW t<24,
actual T=1.5-6
WPS12: supported by PQR2+ PQR4, GTAW+GMAW, T=5-6, GTAW t<6,GMAW t<24,
actual T=5-6

Please check the above 12 WPSs and correct the mistakes number, if any.
Thank you in advance
Best regards

If you mean to combine WPS, I think somebody has answered you question already. It is the second time you ask this question. Please check your first one.

Hi,

The qualified thickness ranges of WPS 1 to WPS 6 are ok (QW-200.4(f) is not applicable)

For WPS 7 to WPS 12 QW-200.4(f) is applicable.

QW-200.4(b) is for a separate qualification of the root and is limited to the processes as stated in this paragraph (assume this is PQR A) and for a test coupon with a thickness T>= 13 mm.
This PQR A may be combined with another PQR B. The qualification of the root is than as follows:
- qualified deposited weld metal as qualified with PQR A but
- qualified base metal is (regardless to the base metal thickness of PQR A) as qualified with PQR B.

I assume
-WPS 7: PQR A=PQR2 and PQR B=PQR1
-WPS 8: PQR A=PQR1 and PQR B=PQR2 (this makes sense only if used SMAW electrodes of PQR1 and 2 are different)
-WPS 9: PQR A=PQR3 and PQR B=PQR2
-WPS 10: PQR A=PQR4 and PQR B=PQR1
-WPS 11: PQR A=PQR4 and PQR B=PQR2
-WPS 12: PQR A=PQR2 and PQR B=PQR4
-GMAW: no short arc welding

According to my assumptions the qualified base metal thickness ranges of the WPS’s are:
WPS 7: T=5-50 mm (your WPS is ok)
WPS 8: T=5-30 mm (If PQR A=PQR2 and PQR B=PQR1 than T=5-50 mm)
WPS 9: T=5-30 mm
WPS 10: T=5-50 mm
WPS 11: T=5-30 mm
WPS 12: T=1.6-16 mm

Everybody here knows you are trying to learn something. But it is always polite to say thanks to people who replied your question. I don't think the way you did is right.

WPS 12: T=1.6-16 mm

hello Juergen fleischfresser
thank you for your reply
as your write,QW-200.4b requires thickness of test coupon more than 13mm.but in my wpss 10-12, thickness of test coupon of PQR4 is only 8mm. hence, could i consider wpss 10-12 is not applicable? how to use the QW-200.4b when happen this?
could you explain it further for me ?
best regards

Hi lovelovewelding,

you are right. Here my correction:

For WPS 7 to WPS 9 and WPS 12 QW-200.4(f) is applicable.

QW-200.4(b) is for a separate qualification of the root and is limited to the processes as stated in this paragraph (assume this is PQR A) and for a test coupon with a thickness T>= 13 mm.
This PQR A may be combined with another PQR B. The qualification of the root is than as follows:

- qualified base metal is (regardless to the base metal thickness of PQR A) as qualified with PQR B.

-WPS 8: PQR A=PQR1 and PQR B=PQR2 (this makes sense only if used SMAW electrodes of PQR1 and 2 are different)
-WPS 9: PQR A=PQR3 and PQR B=PQR2
-WPS 12: PQR A=PQR2 and PQR B=PQR4
-GMAW: no short arc welding

According to my assumptions the qualified base metal thickness ranges of the WPS’s are:
WPS 7: T=5-50 mm (your WPS is ok)
WPS 8: T=5-30 mm (If PQR A=PQR2 and PQR B=PQR1 than T=5-50 mm)
WPS 9: T=5-30 mm
WPS 12: T=1.6-16 mm

For WPS 10 and 11 QW-200.4(f) is not applicable and the qualified base metal thickness ranges are:
WPS 10: T=5-16 mm
WPS 11: T=5-16 mm
