According to Client's spec & drg. we need one flange as :
36" 125# Flat Face AWWA C207 Class E, But we received from our vendor as 36" 150# B16 (On MTR it shows as dimensional standard B16.5 and B16.47 both) A105N, whereas loooking to the stamping details on the flange it
shows only B16 36" 150# SO FF A105N, Heat Number and manufacturer's logo.

Is the received flange from vendor acceptable (as a substitute for the required as per drg and spec)?

Mac,
Use of AWWA flange in VIII-1 vessel requires you to redesign it acc. to the rules of Appendix 2 since AWWA is not included in UG-44 as an acceptable standard.

To my opinion, using of ASME B16.47 #150 (Series A) flange should be acceptable. It exempts you from App. 2 calculation (if your design conditions comply with flange pressure–temperature rating). Please note that NPS 36" is not included in B16.5

shmulik,

Thanks.

The same question came to my mind when I saw the MTR (which mentions dimensional standard as B16.5 & B16.47, evenwhen there are 2 flanges having diameter as 42" and 36" (which we ordered)).

Anyway, that may be not important.

But still 1 question. Looking to the hard stamping on the flange face - it is stamped as: B16 36" 150# SO FF A105N. There is no specific dimensional standard (ideally it must be B16.47) stamped on the flange, ONLY B16 is stamped. Will it be acceptable from the point of view of AI? I think, he may ask for proper dimensional standard stamped on the flange face.

Thanks in advance.

Mac

Hi Mac,
ASME B16.5 is of NPS 1/2" Through NPS 24" only. NPS 36" belongs to ASME B16.47

To your question, the answer is YES.
AI shall accept this marking of B16.
Please review the requirements of ASME B16.47 – 4 Marking. Requirements are listed there.

Quote:
4.2.4 Conformance. The designation B16 or B16.47 shall be applied to the flange, preferably located adjacent to the class designation, to indicate conformance to this Standard. The use of the prefix ASME is optional.

Manufacturer may stamp "B16" or "B16.47". Both are acceptable.

I hope this helps…
