We have two types of welded heads
1 ) Crown & Petal type - used
- To avoid excess thinning
- Press restriction

2) Blank made by welding two/three plates together and formed in single piece - done because of plate width restriction . This type does not seem to have a name.
Both types are shown is Figure UW -3 .
Question is how do you select select the plate layout ? Are there any guide lines ? If AI is reviewing this construction , what should he check ?

With regards
Rathnam

Rathnam,

If you place a weld in the blank plate before forming, make sure that there appear no crack or something like this because of forming.
AI may check the requirements of UG-32 and/or UG-33, UW-3, UW-11, UW-12, UG-81 and may more in Subsection C.....etc.
