Decky,

During ASME survey for C of A, the ASME survey team leader usually ask the fabricator or the company what kind of C of A they would like to have, shop only or field assembly or both.
Usually they will ask for both so that if the fab the vessel at their shop and field assemble it then they can utilize the same ASME C of A.

A Field site is a location of final installation or a place between the shop and the final location, like harbor docks.
However, a Field site shall be temporary, and not a workshop. And it shall be controlled by the Certificate holder.

@Leem, the term Survey is used in Section III. But in Section III the Field site requires an ASME audit and a separate ASME Certificate.
This is not the case in Section I, IV, VIII and XII.
