Dear All,

If a company applies for "S", "U" "R" stamps.
May a demo vessel constructed in accordance with Section I be represented instead of that in accordance with Section VIII-1?
Almost every company represents VIII-1 vessel, why is it so? is there any ASME requirement that demo vessel shall be of VIII-1?

Javed,

I think you should consult with your AIA and they will help you what kind of demo vessel is acceptable for the ASME survey team.

Hi,

please download the following file from ASME.org
http://files.asme.org/asmeorg/Codes/CertifAccred/Certification/810.pdf .

On the second page you finde the following statement:
"For Applicants requesting multiple stamps, it is not necessary to have a demonstration item with design calculations for each Code Section. An item fabricated to any one of the requested Code Symbols may be used as the demonstration item. However, if the demonstration item is not to the most stringent Code requirements, the Applicant must provide additional calculations or another documentation package that contains Code calculations to the most stringent Code requirements and administrative documentation to sufficiently demonstrate compliance with all aspects of the company’s QCS.
For example, an Applicant for U & U2 Code Stamps could demonstrate their QCS on a Section VIII, Div. 1 pressure vessel including design. However, due to the nature of Section VIII, Div. 2 requirements, certification of a design report by an Engineer meeting the criteria as defined in Section VIII Div. 2 shall be verified."

ASME VIII/1 is considered as the most stringent Code in your case.

No, sorry. VIII Div.1 is not considered the most stringent. You can demonstrate Sect.I as well. The reason for which most manufacturers (and AIs, I am afraid) choose Sect.VIII Div.1, I think, is because it is a better known Code, being more used. Sect. I is not easier at all, on the contrary: it is very much complicated.

Nasir,
I would join Leem with asking why your AIA did not answer this question. We are both working in different AIA, but used to assist Mfrs in selecting a representative demo item.

greetings to your AI.
