Goodmorning
Could someone tell me the minimum distance between two circumferential welds (or tell me in which part of the code is written)?

Thank you

Francesco,

There is no minimum distance for circ. welds given in the Code.
You could have weld on weld on weld if you want. Although this is not nice, it is not prohibited.

Francesco,

I agree with DK that does not mandate any minimum distance between Circ. Seams.
As a good engineering practice these seams are separated by a distance of 5t or 50 mm whichever is greater, where t is the thickness of the thinner part being joined.

Dear Dr.Koelbl,

How about weld overlap?. Eg. I have nozzle with pad which already weld completly then our client request to add piping or platform cleat near to said nozzle and weld will be overlap to each other. any test require to perform at this area like hardness test?.

Kindly, please advice.

Thank you.

Code is silent on this issue as the question happens to be hypothetical .

Normally the minimum distance for a shell course is 200 or 300 mm . This is practical minimum in rolling the shell course (depending upon thickness & shell diameter).

At enquiry stage itself ,care is taken to avoid odd lengths. Earlier maximum width of plates available was 2500 mm . Hence vessel lengths were in multiples of 8 feet . Now as plates are available in 3000 mm widths ,lengths also have been suitably modified.

With regards
Rathnam
