Hello,
Strength calculations for external pressure are based on charts from IID or IIDM. What if such a chart doesn't provide a curve for my material at my design temperature? It doesn't say that it's prohibited to use it, but it just doesn't say how to calculate it. Is U-2(g) the right way to go?

Hello Konrad,

I´m afraid it´s prohibited. Please have a look at UG-20 (c) Design temperatures:
Code:
UG-20 DESIGN TEMPERATURE
(c) ... In addition, design temperatures for vessels under external pressure shall not exceed the maximum temperatures given on the external pressure charts.

No way for U-2(g).

Michael

Ah, right. It's quite new, I didn't notice it. Well, I need a different material :-)

Thanks
