For a Forged type nozzle, there is transition angle between the heavier thickness and thinner portion tn, refer to Div. 1 UG-42 e-1.

1) With reference to horizontal line at the tip of heavier thickness, Is the angle be 30 deg. only ? or is this minimum angle and can be increase.

2) For Div 2 what will be this angle.

Thanks,
Gilbert

Hello Gilbert,

is it a question about the transition angle, or the 30° angle in the sketch, which is only used for the determination of "te" for the reinforcement calculation.

Hi Michael,

No not the 30deg at te, My question is at the outer surface of heavier thickness, there is a diagonal line connecting tn outside surface. What would be the angle if your reference point is from horizontal plane.

Thanks,
Gilbert

Gilbert:

You will find the requirement for the angle in sketch (g) of Fig. UW-16.1. It shall be 30 deg. mininimum, therefore you can increase the value.

Regarding Section VIII Division 2 Edition 2004 Addenda 06 please have a look at Fig. AD-540.1 sketch (a). Here the angle is measured from the vertical plane, not from the horizontal plane and shall be smaller or equal 45 deg. From your direction (horizontal) you have to use an angle of at least 45 deg.

You will find the opposite requirement with a different sketch in the new Div. 2 Edition 2007, no Addenda in Table 4.2.10 Detail 9. Here it is measured from the horizontal plane as in the Div. 1 and the value is 45 deg. max.

This seems to be strange (mistake?). I would choose an angle of exact 45 deg  .

Best regards

Michael
