Q- 1
Single welded butt joint without backing strip - Only circumfrential joints, not over 5/8 inch thick and not over 24 inch outside diameter

- IS 5/8 INCH THICK-FILLET WELD THICKNESS AND DOES IT REMAIN SAME FOR EVERY DIAMETER BELOW 24 INCH ??

Q2
Double Full Fillet Lap joint - Longitudinal Joint not over 3/8 inch thick and Circumfrential Joint not over 5/8 inch thick

- AGAIN, IS 3/8 INCH THICK FILLET WELD JOINT FOR LONG JOINT
PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG

Q3
I am referring to PV Handbook by Eugene Megyesy. Is there another book which can guide on which welding type to be used (like for shell - head joint)

Q1 No, 5/8" is material thickness, and applies to 24" and less. This design is not allowed over 24"OD
Q2 No, 3/8" is material thickness.

Q3: The ASME Code simplified, Pressure Vessels, Robert Chuse and Bryce E. Carson.
However, no handbook can substitute the lecture of part UW. In my opinion it´s much easier to start with the Code and to try to find some help in these handbooks later on than the other way round, or to resign of the Code at all.
