What makes GMAW a low heat welding process? as compared to other welding processes?
We have to make but welds in 1.5 mm thick stainless steel (SA 240 TP304) with GTAW but our client is in the favor of GMAW by arguing that GMAW is a low heat process and better for thin sheet welding if compared with GTAW. Any valuable suggestion/opinion is requested.

Because of the small sizes of the electrode and high currents used in MIG welding, the melting rates of the electrodes are very high!
per calculation of Heat Input, It will be relatively lower than other process.
But I think your client is a little bit overcritical, it will be fine only if the welding process is qualified and meet the requirement from design perspective.
