Dear All

PQR done with base material P.No. 1, Group No. 2. (SA516-70). Process SMAW without impact test.

According to QW-420.2, we can use WPS with S.No.1 Group No.1 ( SA572-50), my project not requirement impact test.

My questions are: We use WPS with S.No. 1 Group No.1, it's correct?
our client assert we can not use Group No.2 cover to Group No. 1. but i can not look for where in ASME IX show about that.

Please show me, where is in ASME show about that.

Thank you!

Hi,

unfortunately, you not mentioned the Edition and Addenda of ASME IX.
The referenced paragraph was deleted with Edition 2007, Addenda 2009.

But general, do not use anay paragraph of Article IV if it is not traceable to the stated paragraphs in one of the QW-250 tables.

Have a look on the applicable table for your welding process (QW-253). You can see the applicable paragraph for the Group-No. is QW-403.5. This paragraph is a Supplementary Essential Variable. That means if impact tests are not required by the design code these variables (see QW-251.2) are not applicable. Therefore, it does not matter which Group No. is used. You have to consider the P-No. only.

yes, you only need consider the P-mumber, no group no is required

furthuremore, NO S-No any more after code 09 addenda/

you may prepare WPS with P-No only
