Goodmorning.
I have to form an elliptical head made of 2 sheets of carbon steel (SA 516 Gr.70)
Is it possible to control (RX) the welded junction between the 2 sheets before the forming or is it necessary to control the welded junction after the forming?
Thanks

From the top of my head, I can't produce any code reference. But common sense tells me that it is reasonable to do RT before forming just in case of any unacceptable defects that otherwise would lead to scrapping the formed head. If it's done before forming- you just scrap two sheets of steel (or remove the weld and weld it once more). Forming does not affect any defects in welds, so it shouldn't matter what comes first: RT or forming. But it's just my loose thought, you need some code reference.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.

Thank you

I would start searching in the construction section. If it's VIII-1, find your requirements pertaining to radiography (UW-51/52) and check whether you don't violate anything. I don't think there's anything about it in SecV, but if I was you I would check. Part UG doesn't say anything about it as far as I remember. Anyway, take your time and read the book. It will tell you what you need.
