Hello,

I have a question about the following issues:

The PED permitts in section 3.2.2 instead of the required hydrostatic pressure test also other tests. This requires that the hydrostatic pressure test ist not applicable or disadvantageous.
Then, for example, this test for pipes can be replaced by a suitable non-destructive testing (100% RT or UT and 100% MT or PT for weldings). This greatly simplifies the scope of testing for high-pressure pipelines in power plants.

Is there also a comparable definition in the ASME Code, especially in B31.1.

Thank you for your answers.

Bernd

For BEP (Boiler External Piping) there is no alternative of hydro test in B31.1 for NBEP (Non-Boiler External Piping) there are following three alternatives (if specified by the owner) testing methods;

1- Pneumatic testing
2- Mass-Spectrometer and Halide testing
3- Initial service testing

For reference, please see para. 137.3 of B31.1
