Note-1:A PQR was Impact tested at -46 C, on a 12" Dia Pipe Sch 40 (Wall Thickness=10.31mm) Deposited Weld Metal: GTAW=4mm & Balance SMAW.
Note-2: The WPS Supported by Above PQR is not Impact tested Designed Welding.

Q: Can this Impact Tested PQR support a non Impact Tested WPS which is to be used for Welding of D-catagory(B31.3-300.2) Piping.(Non LTCS).
Q: What will be the ranges of qualification of deposited metal & base metal.
Q If we want to make two WPSs from this PQR (1- for GTAW for Small Thickness Welding & 2- for GTAW/SMAW for larger thickness). What to do?

Kindly suggested with reference of ASME IX & B31.3

Of course both WPS shall fulfill the requirements for the base material, e.g. QW-403.6 and 403.8

Dr. Koelbl,

That mean we can used impact tested PQR to generate non-impact tested WPS.
For example
PQR Data(impact tested)
Test coupon thickness = 20 mm
Material = SA 350 LF2 ( P1 Gr. 2 )

New WPS(non-impact tested)
Qualification range = 5mm to 40mm
Material = SA 106 Gr. B ( P1 Gr. 1 )

Please correct me if i am wrong. Any code case, ASME IX interpretation or reference that we can refer to.

Regards
Tong

Tong,

Sure you can do this.

The Code does not prohibit to list more information and tests in the PQR than required.
Of course all the essential and nonessential variables shall be correctly addresed in the WPS. But without impacts the supplementary essentials are not to be considered for the WPS.
