An Impact Test Equipment is calibrated in accordance with the
applicable National Standard by an accredited calibration - office.

In addition, the same equipment is also calibrated using the NIST Standard Specimen and the ASME Striking Edge. Certification of the equipment by NIST is available.

Question: Is it permissible to use the same equipment for Impact Testing according to ASME Code Section III – NX – 2300 using the ASME conforming striking edge and, after exchange of the striking edge, for Impact Testing to other National Standards (not ASME – Code) without recalibration of the impact testing equipment ?

Mr. Dilly,

Interesting question indeed. I remember having discussed the same with some Manufacturers using the exchangeable fin on a Wolpert machine.

I remember that the Manufacturer was able to prove that the replacment of the fin is NOT CONSIDERED a Major Repair, and only Major Repairs require recalibration.

But honestly I do not remember who and how this was proven. All I know is, I did not write a finding.
