I'm looking for an answer for my topic.

Generally there are 3 inspection party involve such as Manufacturer, Client & 3rd Party.

1) For "Manufacturer", is it refer to QA/QC Department ONLY who's responsible to carry out QC inpsection? Or it can be refer to other person such as Production Engineer, Storekeeper, etc. Example: If inspection point for activity Material Receiving is "Hold", then who is going to carry out inspection?

2) Is it compulsory to have Inspection Records / Forms for each activity in ITP. Example: for fit up activity, if i don't want to use any form/record and i just ask the operator to do "self inspection" base on shop drawing and no record involve, is it possible?

3) Do we need to APPLY "Inspection Request" form for all activities with "H" & "W" point?

Please advise. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

THANKS A LOT! :P

What code or standard are you performing inspection of welded parts?

It can be anyone your company designates to be Inspector. Reason I asked what code are you inspecting to is if you are building pressure vessels to ASME Section VIII Div 1 or 2 then your company will already have a QC Manual in place that designates all QC Inspection activities.

If inspection point for activity Matl Rec is "Hold" then it can be set up that the Receiving Dept personnel will inspect the material and if not acceptable will call on the Quality Assurance Manager write an NCR and provide a suitable Disposition to the matter.

IMHO it is not a good idea to give authority of quality control inspection to the Production Department in that could be a conflict of interest.

Again it depends on what Code or Standard you are inspecting to that determines how you will set up guidelines for a QC Manual.

I certainly would so that there is a reliable method for tracking quality activities.

Thanks Sooeey2u!
I really appreciate your answer and it's very useful.
Currently we refer to AWS D1.1 code only.
