if i wanted to test a weld by charpy impact (like a head to shell) would that be under this
UG-84 (f) Impact testing of welds
Now if i test the connection for a job is this the proper way?
make a SA516 gr 70 test plate
Perform the charpies as such
UG-84 (g) (4) the test temp for welds and heat affected zones shall not be higher than required for base metals.
UG-84 (g) (5) Impact values shall be at least as high as those required for base materials.
so for this situation i would use SA516 secial Suppiment SA-20 -5
for the specs on charpies?
this is not a real situation, im tryinhg to learn all i can about this code.
please if you can explaine the steps better to me that would be great.

i do not really understand what you want,
please read UCS-66 and UCS-67.
i think it gives you some ideas on the testing requirements.

UG-84 is only general requirements on how to carry out the testing.

i would like to know if a joint is tested say( a head to shell) sa516 gr70 to sa 516 gr 70 what impact criteria should be used.
Should it be the base metal impact criteria?
PQR and WPQ have all been done.
This is a question that im asking to better understand ASME and its for my own infomation not for a job.
Any direction would be welcome i do not want an easy answer just some guidance.
If more infomation is need i can post more such as design temps and preasure ect. but as i said this is only for my own knpwledge to become more familiar with this code.

SA 516 Gr.70 requires 20J aaverage and 13J single as per Fig.UG-84.1M up to thickness of 58mm.

UG-84(g)(5) - The acceptance criteria for weld shall be at least as high as those for base metal.
