Dear all,

We have in shop "U" certificate only. What can we do if we got a large scale vessel. We can't shop it as a whole because of transpotation. Please advise. I really appreciate your help.

Regards

Jeff

Jeff, you will need an extension of your cert from U-1 to U-4 (see http://files.asme.org/asmeorg/Codes/Cer ... on/812.pdf). This can take too much time, so the alternative route is to make a series of parts (with partial data reports) and finding a company with a field assembly cert- they will join your parts together at the site.

Thank you Akonrad,

Thank you sooooooooo much for your quick reply. Any chance, can we build and hydro-test it in shop, then cut it into two pieces. Re-asseble it on field. Will our certificate work? Thanks again.

Best regarding

Jeff

Unfortunately you can't. Once the final hydrostatic test is complete no more fabrication can be done on the vessel. You can still hydro it as an assembled unit if you want, but once it's welded back together at the final location (by a field "U" stamp certificate holder) another hydro must be done in order to sign the data report and stamp the vessel with the "U" stamp.

Thank you Andrew,

We can do hydro test again and sign data report by then. Or we can do hydro test half and half in shop, and put them together on field, then hydro them as a whole. Can't we? Thank you for your reply.

Cheers

Jeff

Correct. A final hydrostatic test of the entire vessel must be done once all fabrication is complete. From UG-99:

"(a) A hydrostatic test shall be conducted on all vessels after:
(1) all fabrication has been completed
...and
(2) all examinations have been performed, except those required after the test.
The completed vessels, except those tested in accordance with UG-100 and UG-101, shall have satisfactorily passed the hydrostatic test prescribed in this paragraph."

You can do whatever other hydrostatic tests you want (IAW UG-99, of course), but a final test is still required, and will be the one that goes on the data report. Who performs the test is a matter of agreement between you, the other "U" stamp holder, and your customer.

hopefully you have filed site certificate, thus you can assembly in the field site controlled by your side.

other you may provide the part.

i think you can finish all the fabricate including final seam and do a hydro test just for inspect other welding seam not the final

and then cut them with part nameplate with u2 data report is acceptable.

but your owner shall seek a U certificate to assemble them together with your part data report/

Thank you all Gentlemen,

You are all correct. I consulted my AI. He said in our case, we shuld build it as U-parts with PMDR.

Thanks again for your advising
