Good morning to everyone I’m asking you the following question:

Is possible to use a bolting above the max use Temperature defined in Table 3 (for example for SA 193 B16 the Limits for VIII -2 is 800 °F) ?

We always used the “Code Cade 1489 -2” but, in ASME 2007 addenda 2009b, it is deleted.

Thank you and regards

Lorenzo,

2007 Edition of Section II Part D has a new tables for design stress intensities fro Section VIII-2 using new criteria developed during rewrite. The listing of values includes all materials for which applicability for VIII-2 was provided in the 2004 Edition, 2006 Addenda ; proposals previously approved for inclusion in the 2007 Edition are also included in this listing.
The applicability temperature is the maximum as permitted by VIII-2 or VIII-1 for that material, thus allowing VIII-2 to go to creep range under Code Case 1489-2.
Due to missing the publication due date, these tables are only published on the internet at the url address indicated on the page where these Tables to be published (pp390-485). The Tables will be published in hardcopy for the 2008 Addenda.

Mr Leem thanks for your help,
I think you are referring at Tables 5A and 5B of II-D Book published in the 2008 Addenda just, but this tables regard all ferrous and non ferrous material applicable in Section VIII- Division 2 excluding bolting material.
For this component to be use Table 3 of II-D and the limit of temperature in VIII-Div.2, for all bolting material, does not exceed 800 °F.
I want to know how to design a vessel in Div.2 above 800 °F using, for example, SA 193 B16 material for bolted connections.
Thanks again and best regards
Lorenzo
