Hello,

My question is vectored to ASTM A 420. It specifies 2 grades of fittings namely WPL6, WPL9, WPL3 & WPL8. What do 6,9,3 & 8 mean?

Hello,

I don’t now what you really mean - where is the problem? Have a look to SA-420 and you see the differences e.g. table 1 for chemical requirements:
SA-420 WPL 6: Nominal Composition C-Mn-Si
SA-420 WPL 9: Nominal Composition 2Ni-1Cu
SA-420 WPL 3: Nominal Composition 3½Ni
SA-420 WPL 8: Nominal Composition 9Ni

In order to get a general idea have a look to QW-422 of ASME IX.

Hello Juergen,

Thank you very much for your reply.

When we say SA 516 Gr. 70, "70" specified the tensile strength in kips. In the same way, when we say SA 420 Gr. WPL 8, what does the number "8" specify. I.e. Is this some physical or chemical property and so on.

I recommend that you should present a list about fitting specifications as well as the meaning of very code. If you have it you may post it here. Thanks in advance.
