What is the meaning of a "flued" opening?

Sharjeel,

A flued opening is as illustrated on UG-38 of ASME Section VIII-1. It is where the opening is formed from the head itself instead of welding.

1. What purpose does such a opening serve? I mean what are the applications?

2. Can such a opening be made in a shell portion?
