Hello

Can anybody suggest the minimum required distance between longitudinal/circum weld seam and nozzle. Is there any requirement in ASME codes Div 1 or 2.
As per shell standards, it is 50mm or 2t whichever is greater. But confused with the value of 't' whether it is the thickness of shell or nozzle.

Regards
Vijeesh

DISTANCE?

Why make a distance, if you can use UW-14.
In the specs t is usually the thiskness of the vessel shell, legend of UW-16 may be used. But this would be considered an additional requirement over and above ASME Code.

Hello Vijeesh,

No problem you can locate the opening in the weld seams as far as Division 1 is concerned as already cleared by DK.
Be careful about the following paragraphs if you locate the opening in the weld seams;
UG-37(a) see E1 in the nomenclature.
UW-52(b)(4)

I shall let you know after I check in Division 2.

Vijeesh,

I have checked Division 2 and additionally consulted with my senior, there is no prohibition in Division 2 against placing the opening(s) in welded seams.
