Hello

I have a qustion how to get/calculate the minimal wallthickness for a valve body according ASME 16.34, which is not round. The valve body I will calculate acc. ASME has a elliptical shape. Therefore no equations are listet in the Code. There is just highlited in chapter 6.1.7: Additional metal thickness neede , for ...shapes other than circular. But what diameter can I use to get the minimal wallthicknes? How much more thickness do i have to add for the noncircular body. One inside diameter of the ellipt is
900mm the other is just 550mm.

Do i have to use the larger diameter of the body and select therefore the minimal required wallthickness?

If i would do so, the valve would just sustain a rating up to Class 300. The same body is suitable by using calculation methods acc. to EN 12516-1 which is very simular to ASME B16.34 for Class 900 because in that Code is a extra chapter 8.6 for noncircular shapes. This is approved by an third partie inspection agancy for Class 900 acc. to EN 12516-1 but unfortunately not for ASME B16.34.

Does somebody knows a method to calculate the wallthickness of such a body-shape which is also in compliance whith ASME B16.34?
