I have to qualify a PQR in 1" NPS pipe and I required atleast 4 test coupons for mechanical testing. Can I use 2 welders and if each welder makes 2 test coupons - is there any restriction in ASME section IX to use multiple welders for this size? Both will be qualified by Bend test/RT But QW 452.1 (b) Notes (3) states that
Code:
Thickness of test coupon of 3⁄4 in. (19 mm) or over shall be used for qualifying a combination of three or more welders each of whom may use the same or a different welding process.

You seem to be confusing thickness and diameter with your reference.

For purposes of welder qualification by RT, see QW-302.2.

Also, depending on position, it may be required to have 4 bend tests for each coupon.

QAQCMPM,

certainly you can use two welders to weld two coupons each, and provided you do not use 5 or 6G test positions, the welders will be qualified at the same time.
The paragraph note you are quoting addresses the welding of two or more welders on ONE coupon. ehat is not what I understand you are planning.

Dr. Koelbl;

Although somewhat difficult to read, I believe the person said: I required atleast 4 test coupons for mechanical testing. Can I use 2 welders and if each welder makes 2 test coupons.

As you astutely note, if these welders are in 5G or 6G position, 4 tests EACH would be required.

That said, if 5G or 6G position, and test coupons are 1" NPS diameter it would be cutting things very, very close and I am doubtful proper size coupons possible.
