hello,
I have 2 questions regarding NC-5410 EXAMINATION AFTER PRESSURE TESTING.
1. It is written in this § that "After the required pressure test of a component constructed of ferritic materials with properties enhanced by quenching and tempering, all pressure retaining welded joints shall be examined by the magnetic particle or liquid penetrant method on all accessible surfaces." At the moment, i have a HEX with: - a tubesheet according to SA 266 grade 2: this forging was quenched and tempered before machining, - a shell according to SA 516 grade 70: this plate was normalized before forming.
My question: after the hydrotest, is it necessary to perform MT or PT of the circular weld between tubesheet and shell?
2. As i know, there is no such requirement (PT or MT after pressure test) in other nuclear code like RCCM or conventionnal code like EN13445. Do you know why ASME III requires these kind of surface examination?
Thanks for your reply and best regards,
C
