leeme is right about UT.

Another method of detecting tight cracks in HAZ might be MT if the material if ferrous.

To detect minute cracks I have even sprayed PT developer on the area to be examined and it really enhances the red particles when using AC yoke continuous method MT.

Best of luck to you,
Robert P.

If applicable u can use PiNPOiNT Colormetric Leak Testing as per
"Ammonia Developer Standard Test Method for Ammonia Colorimetric Leak Testing"
ASTM E1066

These are a very effective in case of Stainless steel, if u are able to fill ammonia / nitrogen mixture gas at one side. we effectively use in Urea Reactor.

Best of luck

Type I liquid pentrant would be the most sensitive for detecting tight cracks open to the surface. I am not very familiar with it but I know alot of tank floors are inservice inspected using Magnetic flux leakage. If type I liquid pentrant cant find it nothing can,
