Its about Section VIII Div 1 2007 - Non Mandatory appendix A,; A-3{j}, the paragraph describes test & retest provision of "fr" for joints types listed in table A-2. It says -

- "The value of 'fr' (test) shall be calculated in accordance with A-4 (a) using the lowest values of L (test). In no case shall the value of 'fr' (test) using a three specimen test exceed the value of 'fr' (test) given in Table A-2. If the value of 'fr' (test) so determined is less than the value of 'fr' (test) given in table A-2, retesting shall be performed in accoordance with (k) below..............."

The highlighted text seems self contradictory, I presume that the latter is true - that the 'fr' calculated as described shall be more than 'fr' given in the Table A-2 in any case.

Would be pleased to get the reassurance.

Case 1: Value calculated based on test is more than or equal tp the value given in Table A-2, then use table value - issue is closed

Case 2: If the value of 'fr' (test) so determined is less than the value of 'fr' (test) given in table A-2, code gives alternates for testing

Please also note that everything is as per non mandatory appendix;

I agree to Case 2 mentioned by you, the non mandatory appendix clearly states the retesting provision. At the same time the former statement should rather ask for value of calculated "Fr" to be in any case not less than value of "Fr' in the table but instead it says that "in no case the value of "Fr" thus calculated be more than value mentioned in the table."
