I am designing a vessel as per ASME Sec.VIII Div.2, for nozzle reinforcement as per AD-520 the total cross-sectional area of reinforcement required is A=d.t.F, and this has to be compensated by material available for reinforcement as per AD-550. But I could not interprete how to calculate the available area in AD-550 and the clauses refered in(AD-200 to AD-210, AD-702).

For calculating material available, can I calculate the area using the formulas given in UG-37 of Sec.VIII Div.1 taking the stress values as per Sec.VIII Div.2.

Hello Sukesh,

unfortunately you can´t. You will get a wrong result, because Div. 2 differs a lot from Div. 1. Because it´s a little bit extensive to explain (the formulas are hidden in the text, terrible) ) I will put an example reinforcement calculation here for download on Monday when I´m back in the office. It´s much better when you will see the procedure one time.

For your information: ASME will soon publish a completely revised Division 2 (I hope so). Among other advantages this edition will be much more comfortable to use.

In refering the Calculations for Nozzle Page No-4 Area Required & Available- Which were Sukesh asked for, Now Does This eq. is not same as UG-37 ?
Conditons & Stress values are differnt but Lokking to Equation it is same as UG-37.
Pl Clear my doubts.

Do not forget the 2/3 area check required by Div. 2. Moreover there are little things hidden which has to be considered. e. g. AD-570 (d) ....

Believe me, performing a Div. 1 calculation where Div. 2 is required will cause troubles.
