For one vessel, we have already welded one studded pad on one of the circ-seam without doing 100% RT of that spot (3 times the nozzle diameter or cut portion of the weld seam).

Now what is the alternate to fulfill this requirement.

I heard that, if this type of laps occurs then Ultrasonic Testing can be done to resolve this issue. But, I do not have any detailed information about the portion of the UT Examination (How much length has to be inspected by UT examination).

Can anybody provide guidance in this?

Mac,

The coolest alternative to RT is proper reinforcement as per UW-14(a).
Just make sure that adequate reinforcement is designed.

It seems 100% UT for the seam covered by the pad is the best choice.
