Dear Members,

I have one vessel, Nominal thickness of Hemispherical head is 57mm and Shell is 89mm fabricate using ASME Section VIII Div.2. The offset in welded joint(peaking height at category A weld joints) is around 10mm. Refer to Part AF-142.2 and table AF-142.1 the peaking height for section over 2in is 1/16t [10mm Max]. But our AI and client said offset in welded as above are out of tolerance because they use 1/16t that mean offset is around 3.2mm.

So, could anyone advice me regarding this matter.

Hello faizol,

they are right. 10 mm is the maximum. Thus 11.25 mm is not allowed when the thinner section is 180 mm thick, but 10 mm. In your case you are limited to 3.56 mm, isn´t it.

So, in my case, limited offset is only 3.56mm.So, i need to grind or remove some weld, i'm correct?.

It is a Nonconformity: You have to issue a NCR and make your proposal of repair to the AI seeking his acceptance.
