Pipe Shell thickness Calculation:
I just would like to confirm that we are using the correct pipe thickness.
ASME DIV. 1
24" PIPE SA-106-C
1440 PRESSURE
NO CORROSION
FULL X-RAY

The best we can do is 0.969 wall.
Can we go thinner? If so, how?

Because SA-106 is seamless pipe, I assume that under "full RT" you understand compliance with UW-11(a)(5)(b) to get E=1 per UW-12(d). Given P=1440.83 psi (0.83 psi - static head pressure), S=20,000 psi, D = 24 in. (OD), c=0, pipe undertolerance 12.5 %, I got t=0.93 per UG-27.

UG-16(d) leaves one more trick to be used: you can order the pipe with actual wall thickness instead of nominal, and use the actual undertolerances, which are always smaller than 12.5%. But you must know what your vendor has on the shelf. And it virtually excludes material from stock, because it's highly unlikely that anyone orders pipes by their actual thickness and then checks it at the goods in.

Thank you for the relpy...

We get 0.8413" min. + 12.5% = 0.9465" nom. (24" sch.60 0.969 wall )
So we are using the correct thickness of pipe.
Thanks again
