In the inquiry of CC 2235-9 is written "...an ultrasonic examination be used in lieu of radiography, when radiography is required in accordance with Section I, para. PW-11; Section VIII, Division 1, para. UW-11(a);
Section VIII, Division 2, Table AF-241.1; and Section XII, TE-230.1?"
In reply we see the words "Thickness of vessel and boiler", "vessel volume examined", "block Representing OD surface vessel," Representing block ID surface vessel ".
Always the words of components “vessel”, “boiler” never once words “piping”.
I know CC 181 cover piping for B31.3 Process Piping and CC 179 for piping B31.1.
My question is: CC 2235-9 cover the piping that falls under Section I ?
Many thanks for your reply.
Mario

For Boiler External Piping, as defined in the Preamble of Section I, the requirements of Materails, Design, Fabrication, Installation, & Testing shall be in accordance with ASME B31.1, please see the last sentence of PG-58.3.
Since RT/UT is a fabrication activity that shall be according to B31.1 for BEP.

Mario,

the piping under Section I, sometimes called Boiler Internal Piping is under Section I, and PW-11 governs the RT requirements. I see no reason why CC2235 should not be applicable to the piping internal to the boiler.

Dr. Dirk,

I believe Mario not asking about the boiler proper rather he is asking about Boiler External Piping as defined in the Preamble of Section I.
I agree with you that CC2235-9 is applicable to the boiler proper but not applicable to Boiler External Piping.
Fabrication requirements of BEP is covered by B31.1 not by Section I as we see last sentence of PG-58.3.
Please contribute further.

Nasir,

I share your view, but Mario should specify the piping he is mentioning.

Dr. Koelbl
sorry for delay.
I refer to Internal Boiler Piping, covered with RX in PW11.
The inquiry of 2235-9 relates to piping (Section I PW11) as components (Section VIII div1), but the reply only uses words such as 'vessel' or 'boiler', which are components.
Then CC2235-9 cover however the part Section I - PW11?
Best regards
Mario

Mario,

Internal piping is a part of boiler proper. See the term "completed Boiler" in PG-104.1 first sentence.
So CC2235-9 is applicable to internal piping.
